Peter, the founder of Chessboard, has been in the accounting and finance industry for 18 years. As a chartered accountant, Peter has worked for Deloitte and was Principal in charge of Corporate Finance in Queensland at Crowe Horwath. Peter spent many years in the investment banking industry in Sydney and Brisbane. He has completed many transactions up to $135m in his career from dual track exits, mergers and acquisitions and takeover defences to capital raisings and proposed IPOs. Peter has a depth of experience in private equity, agribusiness, health and services. He regularly acts as lead adviser to boards through corporate transactions. Peter sits on the board of trustees for the Clem Jones Centre and has previously sat on the UQDI Advisory Board, chairman of the UQDI Foundation Board and the JDRF state committee.
Peter is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a Member of FINSIA, a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and an adjunct fellow of the University of Queensland Diamantina Institute.
James is Managing Partner of HLB Mann Judd in Brisbane. He is an experienced business advisory specialist with in-depth knowledge of all operational and strategic aspects of a business. James has an extensive range of expert skills and knowledge across a broad range of industries, including property and construction, hospitality, professional services, transport, financial services institutions, wholesale, and retail. Cheyne is a chartered accountant with experience advising businesses across a diverse range of industries and sizes. Whether agriculture, health or hospitality; small-business, corporates or listed; Cheyne supports his clients with a range of corporate advice.

Salaj has graduated from The University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics degree. As a member of the Chessboard Corporate Advisory team, Salaj provides his clients with corporate advisory services including mergers and acquisitions, transaction services, valuations, business restructuring, and capital raisings.
Salaj has strong financial modelling experience which he leverages to ensure all client needs are fulfilled the an utmost standard. Before working at Chessboard, Salaj has held internship positions at the Queensland Treasury and Edelweiss Financial Services. Salaj ensures to maintain strong relationships with clients by placing their needs and goals first and delivering a positive outcome.
Michael is a company director with diverse commercial experience. In addition to being the Executive Chairman of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA), his roles include Executive Director of the National Association of Cinema Operators – Australasia, Chair of the Australian International Movie Convention and Director of the Intellectual Property Awareness Foundation Ltd. He is also the Deputy Chair of Screen Queensland and a director of Qi Power Limited. Michael serves on the Foundations of the Queensland State Library and the UQ Diamantina Research Institute. He was formerly CEO of Australian Multiplex Cinemas Ltd, serving for many years as an Executive Councillor of the Australian Entertainment Industry Association. He is a lawyer by training and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Darren is the former captain of the Brisbane Broncos, Queensland and Australian Kangaroos, and the highest-scoring player for the Broncos with 1191 points from 355 appearances. He played 36 State of Origins and 59 Tests for Australia. Darren’s leadership throughout his career has him regarded by many as the world’s best rugby league player. Since retirement Darren has used his leadership skills to establish his business career. Darren is a commentator for Channel Nine and a contributor to The Courier-Mail. He is an Ambassador for Origin Energy and holds several positions in the private sector. These include positions in the mining services sector, the aviation sector, and the investment sector.
Rick is an experienced board member with a wealth of experience across several industries. In addition to being a non-executive director of the ASX listed Apiam Animal Health and MotorCycle Holdings, Rick is an advisory board member of Australian Super and non-executive Chair of the privately-owned Leisure Properties Australia. He is an independent member of the Audit & Risk committee of Racing Qld and Open Minds. Rick is a former Queensland Managing Partner of Ernst and Young, recently retiring after 34 years with the group. During that period, he held several roles including Queensland Managing Partner and CFO and Deputy COO in Asia-Pacific for 3 years as well as establishing and leading the EYs Australia / China Business Group in 2005.
